Welcome to Nina Sky .net - Nina Sky Biography

Nicole and Natalie Albino, later to be known by their collective stage name Nina Sky, were born on March 13, 1986 in Queens, New York. They are of Puerto Rican descent, though their parents divorced when the girls were still young. They were raised in Queens and, later, in Roosevelt Island.

The girls were exposed to music very early in life thanks largely to their stepfather, who was a DJ. By age seven the Albinos had already written their own song, a small piece called “Sisters”, and within three years they knew they wanted to become professional singers.

Fortunately for thetwins their parents, both step and natural, were supportive of their dreams. Their stepfather even went so far as to give them both drum and guitar lessons as they were growing up, and soon enough the girls were going to auditions and performing on showcases. They eventually realized that they’d need their own name, and decided to devise a joint name between the two of them – thus Nina Sky was born. ‘Nina’ is a combination of the first two letters of both of their names (Nicole and Natalie) and ‘Sky’ is a representation of their belief that ‘the sky is the limit’.

By 2004 Nina Sky had been introduced to a hip-hop DJ by the name Cipha Sounds who worked for the record label Star Trak. Sounds was impressed by the girls and had them write the song “Move Ya Body” in tandem with the band The Jettsonz, the song eventually evolving to include a mixture of Caribbean music and R&B. The result turned into a demo, and the demo was sent to Next Plateau Entertainment, who quickly signed the twins on to a contract. Not long after Nina Sky was working on its first album.

“Move Ya Body” was released in single form in 2004 and quickly rose through the ranks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, hitting 17t place before falling back down again. It was quickly added to radio playlists, thus gaining the twins more fans and exposure.

On June 29, 2004 their first album, Nina Sky, was released, though it didn’t climb much higher than 44th place. It eventually managed to hit certified gold, and was considered a success taking into account the fact that most promotion for the album came through promoting “Move Ya Body”.

The twins continued to promote their work for several years and also worked on their second album entitledThe Musical. Originally intended for release in 2007, the album has since been pushed back several times and now sports an October 2008 release date, though that date is still tentative. The girls will be releasing the album through J Recordsas they had a fallout of sorts with previous contractors Universal Records. The album’s first single,“Curtain Call”, has been released to iTunes.
